15 May What You Probably Didn’t Know About Heart Disease
Heart Disease is the number one cause of deaths in the world. We are repeatedy told about how certain foods can lead to heart disease and the importance of incorporating good oils and the right fats in our diet. But what your probably didn’t know is that recent studies are now showing an association between pet ownership and cardiovascular risk and the positive influence of pets on heart health.
Owning pets is now believed to reduce the risk of heart disease. There a variety of reasons that may cause this but the most obvious is that people with dogs (who walk them!) tend to exercise more and are more likely to acheive the daily recommended level of physical activity than people without dogs.
Another aspect to consider is that pets also play a role in providing social support to their owners, which is an important factor in helping us adopt a new healthy behavior and sticking with it. In fact dog owners are about 54% more liekely to engage in significantly more walking and physical activity than non-dog owners!
Dogs and Cats are also great company, bring us great joy and love and this can only be healthy for our hearts!
